Delete if surely done , otherwise Why West Ham ?
Why do you support West Ham ? , would be nice to hear-read your stories and background and reasons from the most loyal supporters and casual supporters of WHUFC , aswell as your first game. Obviously family blood for alot of people and being raised around East London.

Not me , raised in a Millwall area , went Lillywhites with my Nan and chose the West Ham kit , Adidas and Avco kit. Went first game about 85 v West Brom when I was 10 and that was it , hooked. Think we won 4 or 5 nil , Cottee was my idol from that day , played a blinder.

Next up was West Ham summer football camps near Chichester at a holiday camp where Parkes , Gale and cant remember the 3rd player ( maybe Martin ) would coach kids daily and also their families would holiday and socialise with everyone as did the players in the evenings. Met Brooking and a host of legends , great experience and fun for kids and parents. Suppose around 85 before cheap air travel , those Butlin kind of camps were popular.

I think Mike Oxsaw on a thread ages ago summed it up talking about Bilic and Di Canio , You just "get" it or you donĀ“t . Catch the

Re: Delete if surely done , otherwise Why West Ham ?
My old man hated football he was into Cricket, F1 and Speedway. I vaguely remember being taken to watch the West Ham speedway down the bottom of Prince Regents Lane, Custom House. Football was always going to be my game though. Born in Forest Gate and living in East Ham it had to be the Hammers for me (i could see the South Bank floodlights from my front garden) you have to follow your local team right? Went to my first game in 1970/71 as an 8 or 9 year old (can you imagine doing that now?) against Leicester went into the South Bank and just pushed my way to the front and stood behind the goal. The rest is history I was hooked why? You are either West Ham or you ain't and I wouldn't want any other way.

Its the trophies for me. The constant flow of trophies and the professionalism of the club. Oh, and the sense of kinship with the owners. Maybe just a pinch of love for the local area around the Boleyn. More recently its the fantastic job the club has done with the relocation, and the strengthening of the bond between supporters and club.

Add all of that up, and who else could i support?

It's in the blood from generation to generation. It's a bit harder to convince the grand children when they live in rural Hampshire.
After the 0-5 against City my 8 year old grandson said "grandad, tell me again why we support West Ham". I explained to him the family tradition but he seemed more receptive when I asked him if he wanted to be in my will. He wears the shirt now every time I see him.

I found that if I told girls that I supported West Ham, they'd do any sexual act with me that I desired.

By the time I was seven, I was hooked.

Dad comes originally from Custom House was at the semi in 64 and the finals in 64 and 65, Mum from opposite The Boleyn, both born in Forest gate, nan worked for Booby Moore and used to stand in the Chicken Run, and my grandad used to attend most home games.

So was always going to be a West Ham boy.

Re: Delete if surely done , otherwise Why West Ham ?
My brother chose to be West Ham and started going on the Underground from Tooting. We then moved to islington and he bought an old banger and my Dad who supported Arsenal had to sit in with him as a qualified driver (His full licence was gained pulling an electric milk float). So I just went along for the ride. In my younger days I had been to see Chelsea, Fulham and Arsenal but never supported any of them. Going once to UP was enough for me and I have suffered ever since. My Dad changed his allegiance so much so that they played Bubbles at hid funeral.

I could not and would not support another team after 53 years. I do not think that it is possible to be an ex-hammers fan

Dad was born and bred in deptford. Millwall HQ. All his mates, all his neighbours Millwall but West Ham was his team. He started going circa 1963 and used to get the shit kicked out of him on his Saturday evening return to New Cross gate from.Games every week. Only.made him more West Ham. Then he married into Dagenham and it all.made sense. I was brought up knowing no other team.

You are right Private Dancer , I did scroll back but went ages without seeing the thread I remember about this.

Just watched this , only 12 mins , but found interesting and wondering the background to WHOers being West Ham.

Re: Delete if surely done , otherwise WHY WEST HAM ?
This must have been done about a 87 times now and my answer is always the same which is I don't know why. You see, I don't remember a time when I didn't support us, so there was never a moment when I told myself 'I l know I'm going to start supporting West Ham because' I can only assume it was because they were the nearest club to where I'm from /lived, or to put it another way I was born West Ham United..

Passed down the male line - paternal Grandad got to play for West Ham youth team, maternal one made it to QPR reserves, so, if things weren't sexually biased, I would have been a QPR fan.

My Mum wasn't interested in football, and her Dad died before I was born, so I wasn't being a TOTAL SEXIST in picking West Ham

Both parents grew up, met and got married within walking distance of Upton Park. It's all I've ever known.

I'm glad and proud of it.
